Head of the laboratory is Valyshev Alexander Vladimirovich, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor. The author of 130 scientific papers, including 3 monographs, 10 study guides, holder of 9 patents for invention of the Russian Federation.
Research interests: the role of microbiota in human organism homeostasis, anti-microbial bacterial compounds, biotechnological potential of microorganisms.
Main trends of scientific activity of the laboratory: assessment of biological diversity of human microbiota and prospects of its use, study of the mechanisms of colonization resistance and intermicrobial interaction, characterization of quorum sensing system of bacterial pathogens.
The most important results of scientific investigations:
- Data on the ecology and pathogenicity of bacteria of various biotopes has been colligated in “Ecology of human microorganisms” (Yekaterinburg: UB RAS, 2006) and “Biology and ecology of enterococci” (Yekaterinburg: UB RAS, 2012).
- Data on biological diversity of anaerobic microorganisms has been systematized: 79 genera and 282 species of anaerobic bacteria have been described in “Human anaerobic microflora” monographic summary (Yekaterinburg: UD RAS, 2004).
- For the first time in Russia with the use of multilocus sequence typing of general bacterial metabolism gene fragments it has become possible to determine the structure of E. faecium isolates from the alimentary tract of healthy persons with antagonistic activity against pathogenic microbiota. The enterococci strains, perspective for development of biopreparations (pro- and synbiotics), have been distinguished and described.
Methods of determination of antilysozyme (patent of the Russian Federation №2126051), antilactoferrin (patents of the Russian Federation №2156807, 2245923) and anti-immunoglobulin (patent of the Russian Federation №2236465) activities of microorganisms have been developed and introduced into experimental and clinical practice.
